  • Sewing Project List for the End of Winter 2023

    February 1, 2023 /

Hi everyone! Spring Solstice (AKA the beginning of spring) will be here next month. I am both happy to see warmer temperatures come back, but I also despise the warmer temperatures. Living in Arizona is not fun during the summertime! Even though summertime will be no fun due to the heat, I always look forward to wearing cute, light weight clothing. This year, I plan on making myself more clothes than I buy. I’m not sure if this will work out the way I plan, but I am hopeful I will have the clothes to wear more cute spring and summertime outfits than in previous years. Even if it means…

  • New Flannel for a Quilt and Plans for It- Part 2

    January 11, 2023 /

Hi everyone! In a post earlier this week, I talked about red and white flannel I purchased to make a quilt out of. In the same order, I purchased navy blue colored flannel and flannel with a marble print on it. Both flannels were on sale at Joann Fabric and Craft store when I placed the order. I originally wanted to make a blue and white quilt, but I decided to buy the marble printed one instead. Since I am talking about the flannel I purchased, I wanted to talk about the blue and marble flannels and how far along I am in deciding what kind of quilt pattern I…

  • New Flannel for a Quilt and Plans for It- Part 1

    January 9, 2023 /

Hi everyone! Back in December, Joann Fabric and Craft store had a great sale on flannel. I wanted to make a flannel quilt for years, but I never purchased the fabric for it. When I saw the sale, I decided it was time to purchase flannel for quilts. In my order, I purchased four colors for two quilts. The first quilt is going to be red and white while the second quilt will be blue and light blue marble. I’ll talk about the blue and light blue marble fabric in a future post. As for the red and white, I wanted to talk about it and some ideas for quilt…

  • Starlit Road Pillow- The Pattern and Fabric Choices

    August 31, 2022 /

Some time ago, I stumbled across quilt patterns available for purchase on Etsy. At the time, I couldn’t find a good quilt pattern that made sense to me. Since the patterns I used were widely available in quilting magazines, I decided to buy a few of the sewing patterns and try them. One of the shops I tried is Maple Cottage Designs. They have become of my favorite Etsy pattern shops because of their easy to follow patterns and easy to understand wording. I loved their patterns so much, I decided to buy a few more patterns from them and make the quilts once I had enough time. Unfortunately, I…

  • Pink and Green Log Cabin Green Fabric Replacement

    August 11, 2022 /

After going through my photographs of the Pink and Green Log Cabin quilt, I found old photographs of the green replacement fabric. The fabric was purchased as a replacement to the original olive green fabric I used in the blocks. While sewing the blocks, I ran out of the fabric and needed to purchase new fabric. I couldn’t find the original fabric anymore, so I looked for a replacement that would match the original fabric’s color and not look out of place on the quilt. I found a nearly perfect replacement fabric at Joann’s not long after my search began. I originally thought I either deleted the photographs of the…

  • Pink and Green Log Cabin Quilt Block Pattern Ideas

    August 4, 2022 /

It’s been a while since I talked about my work on the Pink and Green Log Cabin Quilt, but to be honest, there hasn’t been much progress since my last post about the quilt. Even though I don’t have much to report about the quilt, I do have old photographs I took of the quilt as reference that I can use in posts! Since I’m still working on the quilt, I decided to talk about some of the old reference photographs as fill in topics to write posts about. Two of the photographs I want to talk about are of the placement and layout of the blocks. Since I used…

  • Pink and Green Log Cabin Quilt Block Finished

    June 7, 2022 /

In my last post about the pink and green quilt, I talked about the fabric I used for the quilt. I took the photographs of the fabric a few months ago. Since then, I finished all the blocks for the quilt! Here is what the finished blocks look like… I had some problems with the quantity of fabric I needed to make the quilt. I wanted to make a king size quilt, but I didn’t have enough olive green fabric for the last strip of the panel. I found some fabric in a different pattern at Joann’s that would work perfectly as a substitute for the original fabric. Even though…

  • Pink and Green Log Cabin Quilt Fabric Choices

    May 31, 2022 /

A few months ago, I talked about my intention to make a log cabin quilt out of scrap strips of fabric. After doing some shopping, I decided on the strip color I wanted to use first and what other colors I want to make using it. The first color of scrap fabric I picked was this olive green dragon fly fabric…   I decided to make the theme of the quilt pink and green. I thought of the idea after looking at an advertisement for the musical Wicked. In the musical, Elpheba’s skin is green and Glinda’s favorite color is pink. Because of this, advertisements for the musical include the…

  • Scrap Fabric Strips & My Log Cabin Quilt Plans for Them

    March 1, 2022 /

As of the writing of this post, I’m trying to sort through my scrap fabric collection. There is a lot to go through, but so far I’m making progress. Slow progress, but still. Progress. One of the major things I wanted to make out of my cotton scraps is quilts. I don’t have a lot of cotton scraps (I usually work with other types of fabrics) but I came across my collection of old cotton fabric scraps. I thought for quite a while about what to do with them, but I finally decided to make log cabin quilts out of them.

  • Future Sewing Projects: January 2022

    January 19, 2022 /

Hi everyone! I’ve been going through my fabric stash to see what I would like to work on and when I want to work on it. One of my sewing goals for the year is to put more effort into using my fabric stash instead of buying new fabric. I will buy new fabric only when I need to, but ideally my projects will need to include some of my fabric from my fabric stash. I’m not sure how well this will work out, but I’m optimistic I can work on all the sewing projects I wanted to for many years but couldn’t. So far I’ve found fabric for many…
