The Turquoise and Grey Scrap Quilt- Sewing the Blocks Together

Hi everyone! In my last scrap quilt post, I talked about the size I cut the fabric in and laid out what the fabric pieces look like all together. In this post, I will talk about sewing the fabric pieces into blocks.

Here are what the blocks looked like when I began to sew everything together…

And this is what they looked like once I sewed two of those blocks together…

And here is another color variation…

And, finally, this is what the blocks looked like after I sewed them to make a square…

And here are other color variations…

I know in at least one of the blocks the turquoise and grey plaid isn’t straight. Sadly, that piece’s design, and others like it, was not printed on the straight of grain. This means I needed to choose between cutting on the straight of grain or with the pattern. I decided to cut on the straight of grain. Even though those pieces don’t look right, (And it bothers me) I needed to choose. So, I decided to allow this quilt to look wonky in some pieces but be sound with the direction of the fabric grain.

Sewing the blocks went pretty fast. I think I was much happier to sew random pieces of fabric together (Sans to make sure the same colors didn’t touch to allow for more even color distribution across the quilt) than I was to make a log cabin quilt. This doesn’t have a precise pattern to follow, so I enjoyed the process of sewing more than I did with the log cabin quilt.

In my next quilt sewing post, I will be showing what the complete quilt top looks like!

That’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
