The Turquoise and Grey Scrap Quilt- Plans for the Blocks

Hi everyone! While working on my turquoise and grey log cabin quilt, I began to realize I was getting too annoyed and frustrated about quilting it. In order to reset my brain (And to make me feel better about my sewing abilities) I began to take all the scrap fabric from making the top and began to sew a scrap quilt out of it.

I decided to make it the same way as the navy and yellow scrap quilt. For that quilt, which I talked about here on this blog in posts here, here, and here, I cut the remaining fabric from creating the log cabin block design and made a scrap quilt out of it. I liked the way my measurements and the quilt in general turned out, so I decided to keep everything the same for this quilt.

I want to mention that the log cabin design I used to create both the navy and yellow log cabin quilt and turquoise and grey log cabin quilt are the same design. Since they are the same, I can use cut the turquoise and grey fabric to be the same sized pieces as the navy and yellow scrap quilts.

For that quilt, I used the strips, which were cut 2 1/2 inches wide. I cut them into two lengths: 5 inches and 2 1/2 inches. Then, I sewed the pieces together.

As for this quilt, I knew I would have more 2 1/2 inch x 2 1/2 inch pieces. I had a lot of scrap fabric that was small, so I used them to create more of the small squares.

While I worked on the quilt, I decided to lay out the pieces to see how they would look once sewn together. Here are some of the pattern and color variations I knew I would have with the fabric…

I decided to sew lighter shades of the fabric next to darker ones. I also decided to make one side of the block dominantly turquoise and the other side dominantly grey. At that time I thought it would create a better color distribution throughout the quilt.

In next week’s post, I will talk about sewing the pieces together to create the blocks.

That’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
