Sewing Plans for May 2026
Hi everyone! It’s a new month, which means it is time for me to start focusing on new sewing projects. I’ve been slacking on my sewing for the past few months due to a busy life and too many allergies. (This year seemed harder on me and my relative than last year. I don’t know why, but it has been!) Since I wasn’t able to focus on sewing these past few months, I let a lot of sewing projects fall to the waist side.
In May, I’m hoping to start sewing like I needed to again. I have projects that require immediate attention (Pajamas!) and others that I want to make but don’t have an immediate need for them. (Summer dress) I have also decided to focus on my most needed/wanted projects first. If I finish them before the end of the month, then I’ll work on something not mentioned in this post.
Pajamas
It’s that time of the year when I need to make myself new pajamas. The problem is I keep experiencing setbacks in sewing them. In late April, I realized I can’t wait any longer to make myself pajamas. Since I’m in serious need of new pajamas, I’m making this my first priority this month. Even if I don’t get any other sewing projects done, I’ll be really happy if I finish the pajamas!
“Finish” Vogue Patterns’ V2004
One of my pet peeves is unfinished sewing projects. One of my most recent sewing projects that is unfinished is a dress I was making while using Vogue Patterns’ V2004. I talked about it here on this blog, but once I finished sewing it, it was too small for my chest. Based of my friends’ experience with the pattern, I knew the top of the dress would be small unless I made adjustments to the pattern. I thought I made enough adjustments, but it turned out it wasn’t enough.
This month, I’m planning on fixing the top of the dress so it will fit me, but can be adjusted in case my chest size becomes smaller. (I had a lot of loose skin in my underarms, causing my chest size to be bigger than it really is. My skin is healing and my chest size is getting smaller, but it is slow.) It probably won’t take a lot of work to finish, but I don’t know how fast I will be in finishing it.
Summer Dress
It’s summer time (In my head at least) and I want to make myself a summer dress. I have plenty of fabric to pick from. I just need to choose a pattern and make one.
Cotton/Cotton Knit Summer Shirt
Like with the summer dress, I want to make myself a summer shirt. I want to make my shirt out of cotton or cotton knit fabric. The thing is I don’t know what type of sewing pattern I’m going to use to make it. I was thinking of creating a clone of a shirt I used to love to wear almost twenty years ago. The shirt doesn’t fit me anymore and the fabric the shirt is made out of irritates my sensitive skin, but I like the way it used to fit me, how comfortable it was to wear, and how I looked when I wore it. I also found a sewing pattern that makes a shirt that looks similar to my shirt.
I keep going back and forth about what to do. Right now I’m thinking of using the sewing pattern to make a shirt to help me learn how to make a shirt. Once I feel comfortable making the shirt, I will turn my attention to making a clone pattern of my shirt and create the clone out of cotton knit fabric.
A project I want to mention that I will be working on is McCall’s M8029 cape. I already talked about this pattern and a YouTube video I made but took down in this post. I really want to start working on it, but I don’t want to actually finish it this month. I want to start making final decisions about making my cape and if I should film it as I sew it, how to approach making a video of how to make it, or if I should just scrap the video idea entirely. Even if the fabric is cut not out, I still want to make decisions about the video portion of the project and a timeline of when I want to finish the cape I make for my own personal use.
That’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
