  • Changes to The Idiot’s Lantern Page…

    February 13, 2014 /

I usually get most of my page views on this website thanks to searches looking for how to make Rose Tyler’s dress from The Idiot’s Lantern. I made a page for all the Rose Tyler dresses, but after reorganizing parts of this website, I began to not like the way I set up the dress page. I talked about all three versions of the dress that I made on one page and, although it is convenient for anyone looking up information about the dress, it’s a pain to maintain. So, I decided to change it. The original page will still remain, but I’ll take away all the information and photos…

  • Idiot’s Lantern Dress~ Sequin Update Number 1

    December 1, 2013 /

It’s been a while since I talked about my Rose Tyler, Idiot’s Lantern dress, so I thought I’d better give an update on the progress of version 2 of the dress. To make sure everyone knows what “version 2” of the dress is, version 2 is the one with all the sequins hand-sewn onto the bodice. So far, I did make progress on sewing sequins onto the bodice, but I only finished two “panels” of the dress. Here’s what they look like…. So, that’s about it. I’m still working on it. Obviously I missed wearing it to the 50th anniversary screening, but I’m not as upset as I thought I…

  • Idiot’s Lantern Dress~ Part 2

    October 8, 2013 /

Just to clarify, this post is about version 3 of my Idiot’s Lantern dress. Version 3 is made with fabric that has sequins already on it. After working on my Snow White dress, I thought I’d better start on something “new” until the fabric I ordered for the dress arrived. I ended up working on the Idiot’s Lantern dress because I already made two of them, so it would be easy for me to assemble. I ended up using the same exact bodice pattern I was using for the hand-sewn sequined bodice. (It was kind of a “If it isn’t broke, why fix it?” deal) I used the same modified…

  • Idiot’s Lantern Dress~ Part 1

    May 29, 2013 /

Since it’s taking me a long time to work and make posts about the new Idiot’s Lantern dress, I decided to split the posts into parts. So, this is part one of how ever many posts needed to make until I finish the dress! Anyway, here is the progress I’ve made on sewing the sequins onto Version 2 of the dress…. I didn’t work on the dress for a few weeks because I was more concerned about what I was going to make and wear to the Phoenix Comicon. Now that it’s over, I can resume working on it. In other Idiot’s Lantern dress news… After a lot of thought,…

  • Idiot’s Lantern Dress Vers. 2- All the Pretty Sequins

    April 2, 2013 /

When I made Version 1 of my Rose Tyler, Idiot’s Lantern dress I didn’t have this blog so I didn’t have the ability to write about how I made the dress in the form of blog posts. Now that I have this blog, I hope I can keep more up-to-date about the progress I make while sewing version 2 of the dress. 🙂 Last week, I went to the fabric store and bought most of the sequins I’ll need for the dress. I’m not completely sure if I bought enough sequins, but I know where I can get more. 😉 Anyway, I bought the rolled sequin trim instead of the…

  • Revival of the Idiot’s Lantern Dress

    March 29, 2013 /

A few days ago, I tried on my beloved Rose Tyler-Idiot’s Lantern dress and much to my dismay, it didn’t fit me anymore. It makes me livid that I worked so hard on my dress, hand sewing each sequin onto the bodice individually, and now it doesn’t fit me anymore. In case anyone is wondering why the dress doesn’t fit me anymore, it’s quite simple: I grew taller. This is very unusual for a female my age to have a growth spurt, but it’s not unusual for my family. When I began making the dress, I thought I was done growing. Unfortunately, I was wrong and in the year after…
