Costumes I Want to Remake- Spring 2018
Hi everyone! I’m slowly finishing all the sewing projects I want to write posts about, so as a sewing post filler, I decided to talk about which costumes I made in the past and want to remake in the future.
Even though I want to remake every costume on this list, I will not work on them for at least the next two or more months. There is a lot of changes going on in my life right now which makes it harder for me to sew as much as I’d like to. (This is also the reason why I don’t talk about sewing as much as I want to. I don’t have the time to finishing anything.) So, this is a list of costumes I’d like to remake one day once my life settles down a bit.The first costume I’d like to remake is Snow White from Mirror Mirror…

When I made this dress, I was very proud of it. It wasn’t the hardest thing I ever made, but it wasn’t easy either. I learned a lot working on it and enjoyed creating it. So, why do I want to remake it? I lost weight and I grew taller. Even though I tried to design the dress to fit me after weight loss and after I grew taller, it didn’t fit right. So, I’d like to remake it.
The part of the costume I look forward to remaking the most is the bodice, specifically the front. The front of the bodice is supposed to be smocking, not pin tucked fabric. I knew this when I made the costume back in 2013, but I didn’t know how to sew smocking. Since then, I’ve learned how to sew smocking, so I’d like to make a panel of smocking for the bodice of the dress.
Even though this costume is one of my top to-make costumes, I don’t have new fabric for it. I do have trim for it, but that’s it. I’m not sure what kind of fabric I want to make the dress out of, mostly because the dress in the movie was made out of silk, but I hope to start fabric shopping for this costume by the end of this year.
The next costume I want to remake is Elizabeth i from Doctor Who…

Before writing this post, I tried to think of all the costumes I wanted to remake and this one was on the top of the list. I don’t like the pattern I used for the bodice and already made plans on remaking it as soon as the bodice was finished. Now that I look at the photo of the dress, it doesn’t look that bad, but I remember it fitting poorly back then and it should fit worse today because I lost weight between 2014 and today. So, this needs to be remade. I think the skirts can be saved and used in the new costume, but that’s for future me to decide.
As for fabric, the seller I bought the gold pin tuck taffeta fabric from no longer sells it, but I did find a similar fabric to the one I used in the dress. I think the shade of gold is a little different, but not so different that it’s very noticeable. All I need to do is buy new beads, new supplies to make the bodice, figure out what pattern to use, and then I can start working on it.
This next costume always makes it on my remake lists: Rose Tyler’s Idiot’s Lantern dress…

I’m not kidding when I say I feel like a… well… idiot when it comes to this dress. I’ve remade this dress I don’t know how many times now and each time something goes wrong. It can be the fit. It can be the fabric. It could be the fact I keep hand sewing sequins all over the bodice of the dress because make the dress itself just isn’t hard enough for me to make. Whatever it is, when I make the dress for myself, it never works the way I want it to, but when I make it for someone else, it worked out fine. But for me? Nope. I’ve had nothing but headaches with it.
I plan on taking another stab at this dress in the future, but for now I’m going to let my plans and fabric I bought to make the dress out of sit in storage until I feel confident enough to tackle it.
Another Rose Tyler costume I want to remake is the Empty Child jacket…
Adding this jacket to my remake list bothers me because the jacket in the photo is actually from a 2017 remake of the jacket. It really is the closest I ever came to accurately making the jacket, thanks to the fact I found the real jacket from the show (A Firetrap brand jacket in the style Harrie) in a different color and used it as a base for my pattern.
So, why do I want to remake this jacket? It’s because I lost weight and now it’s too big on me. Yes, I’m happy I lost weight, but no, I’m not happy I need to remake my whole entire closet of costumes and clothes because of it. I am very proud of this jacket, but I’ll need to remake it if I want to wear it this winter.
Well, I think that’s about it! I have many more costumes I want to make, but these are the costumes that I want to make the most. I have new costumes I want to make as well, but those are fairly easy compared to all the ones on this list. Still, it’s a distraction from all the costumes I want to remake and have in my costume closet.
Thank you so much for reading!
