  • Rose Tyler Idiot’s Lantern Dress- Sequin Progress Update

    April 23, 2015 /

I know I said I was going to make more posts about my art, I decided to make another post about making Rose Tyler’s pink dress from the Doctor Who episode The Idiot’s Lantern. A few days ago, I reached a milestone in sewing sequins on the bodice! As of a few days ago (Monday) I finished sewing sequins on half the bodice! Yippie! Here’s what the front of the bodice looks like… And this is what the back of the bodice looks like… Since this dress has a different bodice than the other dresses I’ve made for myself, I had to change the way I sewed the sequins onto…

  • Making Myself Rose’s Idiot’s Lantern Dress For the Final Time

    March 30, 2015 /

At last, I’m making myself Rose Tyler’s pink dress from the Doctor Who episode The Idiot’s Lantern for the last time. Yippie! Right now my thumb has not improved enough to make myself comfortable to hand sew a lot. Because of this I cannot hand sew the sequins onto the bodice yet, but that doesn’t mean I can’t make the rest of the dress so it will be ready for sequins when my thumb is ready to work! Although I said I would test out patterns for the dress, I decided for my dress to use the bodice from Simplicity’s 1194 before working with the second pattern. I feel in…

  • Clara Oswald’s Robots of Sherwood Dress- The Work in Progress Post

    March 8, 2015 /

As with the past few years, I’ve been working on a complex dress to wear to the 2015 Arizona Renaissance Festival. This year is another Doctor Who dress: Clara Oswald’s Robots of Sherwood dress. Despite making progress on the dress in October, progress was slowed down due to all the hand sewing I needed to do on the dress. It’s been frustrating, but as of this post I’m almost done with my dress. I’ve been making posts on my Tumblr about the progress I made on the dress, but I felt sad I never mentioned the dress or the progress I’ve made on it here on my main, formal blog.…

  • 2014 Costume and Sewing Round Up

    December 29, 2014 /

Even though I always wanted make a costume and sewing round up post, I never made one before. I decided this year to change it! I also decided to do a round up post for my art and photography, but those are coming soon. This year I didn’t get the chance to wear many of the costumes I made. Usually what happened is whenever the event I was going to dress up for came, I got sick (Arizona Renaissance Festival) or I got hurt and didn’t feel like dressing up. (Phoenix Comicon) Fortunately, some of the costumes looked like regular clothes so I was able to wear pieces of them…

  • Drafting Rose Tyler and Gwen Cooper’s Jacket Patterns

    November 4, 2014 /

Two weeks ago I was sick with the flu. While trying to think of something to get my mind off how yucky I felt, I decided it was about time I drafted some patterns for a few Rose Tyler and Gwen Cooper jackets I own. Although I adore the jackets Rose Tyler wears in Doctor Who and the jackets Gwen Cooper wears in Torchwood, finding them are very difficult and it’s even harder to find the jackets in my size. After a lot of thought, I decided that after this year’s Phoenix Comicon, I’ll use what money I had left over from the convention (If I had any money left…

  • Rose Tyler’s Idiot’s Lantern Dress- The Remade Underskirt

    October 16, 2014 /

Since I’m remaking the Rose Tyler Idiot’s Lantern dress, I thought it would be nice to make a new underskirt to go with the new dress. The old underskirt is fine and still usable, but my sewing skills have improved since then and after finding new information about the underskirt used for the dressed used in the episode, I decided to remake it. The original underskirt wasn’t something I’m very proud of when I made it. It was made the night before the convention I was supposed to wear it to so it really wasn’t the best sewing I ever did and I knew it. But I needed an underskirt…

  • Adventures in Finding Duchess Satin

    September 23, 2014 /

Its been a while since I made a post so I thought I’d talking about something I’ve been working on and off for about six months, finding Duchess satin for sale. Sure, it sounds boring, but I cannot believe how hard it is to find Duchess satin where I live! The reason why I’m interested in Duchess satin is because I recently had even more growth spurts. Apparently my body took a break for a few months before starting to grow again. This tricked me into believing that I was done growing when I really wasn’t. So, all the dresses I made for myself to wear as part of a…

  • Rose Tyler’s Stolen Earth Jacket- The Alternate Jacket

    September 5, 2014 /

Its been a while since I talked about making my Rose Tyler Stolen Earth jacket. Since the last post, I ran into so many problems with the jacket that I’m thinking of the jacket and then deciding what I want to fix in a second yet-to-be-planned-for version. Anyway, I’m taking a break from going conventions for the next few months, I have some extra money to spend, I needed another warm jacket (Growth spurts strike again), and, since I really wanted a jacket that would pass as Rose Tyler’s Stolen Earth jacket, I found one that looked like the jacket online (Ebay to be exact) and bought it. Here’s what…

  • GE Elementalist Bolero Jacket

    September 2, 2014 /

After a month (Or so) of working, I finally finished another part of my Granado Espada Elementalist costume! This time, it’s the jacket. I call it the bolero jacket, because it is, and it was hard to finish. Thanks to breaking the jacket into workable sections, making the jacket wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be and I was able to finish the jacket sooner than I thought. It was still a hard project to work on because my sewing machine broke while working on it. This meant that if I wanted to finish the jacket, I would have to hand sew the rest of it. Anyway, onto…

  • Rose Tyler’s Empty Child Jacket- Version 2

    August 3, 2014 /

It’s been a year since I made my first Empty Child jacket and as much as I like my first jacket, I wanted to remake it. There were problems with my first jacket, mostly due to the fact it was the first time I ever made a jacket like this. Most of the problems had to do with fitting and little nit picky things, but it still bothered me. I believed I could do better, so I spent months doing more research on the jacket so I could create a better, more accurate jacket. Probably the most annoying thing about doing more research is that my original post about the…
