The Completed Idiot’s Lantern Dress

A while ago, I talked about the Rose Tyler Idiot’s Lantern dress that I made by sewing all the sequins on the top by hand. At the time, I had finished sewing the sequins on it and thought it was completely done. Since then, I fixed parts of it I didn’t like and lengthened the skirt. (I lengthened the skirt by re-doing the hem. I made the skirt longer than I normally would so I could have the luxury of doing this) I didn’t have very many pictures of it because I didn’t have a dress form to show how the whole dress looks completed. I finally got around to buying a dress from and took photos of the dress on it. Here is what the whole dress looks like….

What I didn’t mention before is that I made a underskirt to wear with the dress. I made a skirt to wear under the dress because the satin can become transparent in the right light. I wanted to be able to wear this skirt again for fun and without the pink dress.

The skirt is made out of pink costume satin and some pink tulle. I used a pattern I modified a while ago as a base for the skirt, but the rest of it I made from rectangle pieces of fabric. It also has an elastic waistband and is comfortable to wear…

I need to adjust the elastic size of the skirt because it’s too big for me. It was large when I made it but I’ve recently grown taller and thinner so it pretty much slips off my body when I wear it. It’s an easy fix, but it’s just a matter of me stopping my procrastination and doing it. ^_^

I’m not sure when I’ll be able to take photos of me wearing the dress or the whole costume including the wig, but I’d like to do it sometime next year if possible. I’m still trying to find someone that is a good photographer willing to take photos of me in the dress. I think my mom will be the one who will take photos of me, but I’m still discussing it with her. ^_^

Hi there! I know this is somewhat off-topic but I needed to ask.
Does building a well-established blog such as
yours take a large amount of work? I am brand new to running a blog however I do write in my diary every day.
I’d like to start a blog so I can easily share my experience and views online. Please let me know if you have any kind of ideas or tips for new aspiring bloggers. Thankyou!

Hello there! It does take a lot of work to build a blog such as this one. When I first began this blog, the hardest part for me was to make the blog look nice and have easy navigation. People looking for new blogs to follow will not be impressed with a blog if isn’t nice to look at or easy to navigate. When I made this blog, I tired to base it off other blogs I liked and how their pages were laid out, titled, and so on. That way others could hopefully use my blog easily and without getting lost.
As for making new posts, that is now the hardest part for me. This blog mostly centers around my art, sewing, and photography. With three different topics to keep track of and blog about, it’s hard to keep everything in balance. It gets even harder to blog about one specific topic over and over again when you have followers that seem to want to see one specific topic more often than others.
If you have more than one topic you’d like to blog about like I do, I suggest setting up more than one blog and have links to each blog on every blog you run. I didn’t do this because I wanted one central location for all my blogs. That way I can maintain and watch over them easier. If you’re like me and want to maintain and watch over the blog easier, use one blog, but make sure the blog’s layout allows for pages. That way if your followers see a post you like and want to see more on that topic on your blog, you’ll have it all set up and ready for them to look at.
I hope all of this helps and good luck with your blog! If you’re really dedicated to your blog and are passionate about what you write about, then all the hard work you put into the blog will not seem so bad. In fact, it might become very enjoyable! 🙂
