2018 Spring Ironwood Blossoms

For the last few weeks, I talked about the photos I took of peach tree and Saguaro blossoms. This week, I wanted to share the last set photographs I took of 2018 spring blossoms.

The last set of photographs are of Ironwood tree blossoms. Normally, the Ironwood trees near my home do not blossom as much as they did this year. Every single Ironwood tree I saw was covered in lavender purple blossoms. They were so beautiful and I’m so happy I got to see them and take photos of the blossoms! 2017 Peach Blossom Black and White Photos

Hi everyone! This is the last post of 2017 and I don’t know were the time has gone. For this post, I wanted to share one last set of photos I took in 2017 that I converted from color to black and white. These photos are of the peach blossoms I took very early this year. The colored version of the peach blossom photographs can be seen in a post I wrote here.

Here are the photographs…

Editing these photos was fairly easy. They converted to black and white without too much fuss. In fact, the only thing I needed to do was adjust the contrast before they looked the way I wanted them to.

Although editing the photos was easy, I realized some of the flowers are blurry. I don’t know why I never noticed how blurry some of the photos are, but I noticed them now.

Well, this means it’s the end of my 2017 posts! I hope everyone is having a happy holiday season and a very happy new year!

Thank you for reading!

April 28, 2017 Cactus Blossom Color and Black and White Photographs

Hi everyone! I’m back with some more black and white photographs, this time they are ones I did not post here before. I found them while searching for other photographs I took this year, but when I realized I never posted them. The photographs, which are of a saguaro blossoms and saguaro blossom buds, looked nice so I thought it would be a good idea to post them before the end of 2017.

Since I never posted the photographs online, I decided to post both the colored version and the black and white converted versions. I also will not critique the way I took the photographs and how that influenced the way the black and white conversion like I did with the Arizona Renaissance Festival photographs. 2016 Peach Tree Blossoms

I was so busy earlier this year that I forgot to post photos of this year’s peach tree blossoms!

Since the temperatures in Arizona were unseasonably warm, the peach trees bloomed a month early. Other plants bloomed early as well, but the peach trees where the ones that drew the most attention from bees, butterflies, beetles, and even a hummingbird. Although I was unable to take pictures of all the animals visiting the peach trees, I still have some very nice pictures of the blossoms!

Since I took so many pictures of the blossoms, I’m posting a few here. The rest can be found in my Flickr albums for February 2016 and Mach 2016 nature photos. Since I normally put all the nature photos I took during that particular month in the albums, you will probably see photos of different blossoms and sunset photos in it. Enjoy the photos!

February 2015 Spring Blossom Photos (And a few sunsets)

To make a long story short, I missed photographing the cactus blossoms this year. And I’m also missing photographing the saguaro blossoms as well, so in order to make up for the lack of blossom photos, I’ll show you some photos I took back in February.

All the photos in this post are from my Flickr account. The rest of the photos can be found in the February 2015 Nature Photos album.

Rose Bouquet Painting

Earlier this year I entered one of Spoonflower’s weekly contests. The theme was to create a floral picture that can be colored like a coloring book. I entered, lost, and loved the picture I entered so much I began to color it.

That was back in April and it’s already November. What delayed finishing the painting was part loosing the partially colored file and part switching computers and paint programs. Now that I have my new computer up and running with Photoshop and I re-found the file, I thought it was about time I sat down and finished it.

Here it is completely colored….

I colors in Gimp when I stopped. I don’t remember why I stopped, but I did. All I really needed to do was color the leaves, add the background, and it was done. It was so close to done and I stopped! ARG! Anyway, it’s done and that’s what matters.

The painting is available for sale on Redbubble and Society6. Right now it’s not for sale on Spoonflower, but I hope to have it for sale by the end of the year. (I’m waiting to do a bulk order of swatches and the other fabric designs I’m making are not done.)

Floral Coloring Book Wallpaper- Please Vote!

I’ve been meaning to enter one of Spoonflower’s weekly contests for a while, but I didn’t get the chance to until now!

This week’s contest is to create a floral coloring book wallpaper design that is meant to be colored using crayons. I’ve been playing around with drawing flowers recently, except I colored my drawings with watercolors. I decided to use the same idea I was using for those flower paintings, except I wouldn’t color it.

Here’s what the full design looks like…

And here’s what the fabric/wallpaper design looks like…

And you can vote for it here…

The way the voting is set up for a Spoonflower contest is a little different to anyone who is unfamiliar with it. First, you need an account. (It’s free and if you want some custom printed fabric in your own design, you get 10% off the price of the fabric in your design) Second, the entries are randomized so you’ll have to scroll through the entries to find mine. ๐Ÿ™‚

EDIT: I think you can vote without creating an account. Things have changed for the voting process on Spoonflower and… well… I’m behind the times. Sorry about that! ๐Ÿ˜›

Anyway, about my design… like I said before I’ve been playing with this flower idea for a while. I drew a rough sketch on copy/printer paper and scanned it. I won’t post what the scan looked like because it was very light and hard to see. To make it clearer and the lines darker, I used the cartoonify filter on Gimp. Then, I began to clean it up using my Bamboo tablet, eraser tool, and the ink tool. That took some time because it was a rough sketch and… well… it was rough. I took away petals, added petals, added leaves, and changed the size of some of the flowers.

Over all I’m pleased with my design. I want to color it and put it for sale on Redbubble, Society 6, and Spoonflower, but that’s for the future. ๐Ÿ™‚

In closing, if you have a Spoonflower account, I’d really appreciate it if you vote for me! If you don’t have a Spoonflower, support is great too!

Spring Blossoms 2014 Part 1 of 2 (Maybe)

Well, its spring and the trees around my house started/are blooming. Last year I took some photos of the blossoms on the peach trees near my house, but since then an orange tree that was planted years ago began to bloom for the first time! I’m excited because this means oranges (And orange juice) might show up in the future. Yum!

Anyway, here are some photos of the peach blossoms, orange blossoms, ocotillo blossoms, and Creosote blossoms around my house. The only blossom photos that are missing are the cactus blossoms. They have yet to blossom, but some are starting to show signs they are getting ready to. Once they blossom I plan on taking photos and posting them here. (Thus the “Part 1 of 2” in the title) I’m not sure if I’ll have the time to do it though (Thus the “maybe “in the title).

If any of the photos below are available for prints and such on Society6 or Redbubble, links to the sites will be provided under the photo. ๐Ÿ™‚ First, the peach blossoms… springblossom2014 Continue reading “Spring Blossoms 2014 Part 1 of 2 (Maybe)”

April 2013 Cactus Flower Prt. 2

Here’s part two of a two part post series to show the photos I took of two different cactus near my house.

After taking the photos from part 1 of my cactus flower post, I found another cactus blooming nearby. It was a different cactus with a different color and type of flower, but it was still very pretty! Unfortunately, I’m not sure what type of cactus it is. (Unfortunately, I’m not very well versed in the types of cactus in Arizona so I’m no help in the names department. ๐Ÿ˜› )
