Sewing Vogue Pattern V2004: Other Trims and Other Essentials
Hi everyone! In today’s Sewing Vogue Pattern V2004 post, I wanted to talk about the other trims I purchased to add to the main lace trim I wanted to sew onto the dress. I also wanted to talk about other essentials (Actually, just one essential) I purchased for the dress.
The essential I purchased for the dress was invisible zippers…

I needed to get a new zipper for the dress because I didn’t have one in the right color in my sewing supply stash. I purchased a white zipper and a beige colored zipper. Once I got home, I realized I didn’t need the beige zipper for this dress. So, I used the white zipper and kept the beige one for a later project.
Now, onto the trims!
In last week’s post, I mentioned the trim was not wide enough to work as the trim the pattern called for. Instead of scrapping the idea to use the trim, I decided to use more than one row of the trim to made the trim wide enough for the dress. In order to give my trim some pizzazz, I decided to add some layers of other trim onto the lace.
Sadly, I had a hard time finding trim that would go along with the overall look of the dress. I ended up finding three trims (One trim and two ribbons).
The first trim I found and purchased is this Simplicity trim in the shape of daisies…

Not gonna lie, I loved this trim! Even though I’m finished making the dress, I still love this trim! It matched what I wanted the look and theme of the dress to be like. There was only one downside to it though: There was only one spool of this trim at the Joann Fabric and Craft storeI shopped at. I searched for it on Amazon, but couldn’t find it. I did find similar ones to it though. Even though I love this trim, I decided not to use it on this dress. I have plans to use it on another spring/summer dress I want to make. I’m also considering the similar Amazon trim I found to accompany it!
The second trim is a spool of pink ribbon from Joann…

The moment I saw this ribbon, I fell in love with it! It is so pretty! The shade of pink is blue toned (Which I look best in) and it is wide enough to fill in anything that needs to be added to the width of the lace trim. Plus, it looks good with the color and design of the trim! Sadly though, I didn’t look at the spool too closely to see it could be machine washable. It wasn’t, so I decided to scrap it for a future project… or until I do some washing tests to make sure the trim will wash properly in a washing machine.
The last trim is this ribbon trim…

It was the cheapest of all the ribbons and trim I purchased for the dress. (Less than $1 USD) I really liked the way it looked and the color was similar enough to the color of the lace trim to blend in. Yet the shine of the ribbon would make it stand out. Even though I had my reservations, I decided to purchase two spools of it.
Now that I had my trims and other supplies to make the dress, I began to play with the trim to see if I liked the trim one way or another way. I’ll talk about that in next week’s post.
That’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
