Jane Austen at Home by Riley Blake Designs Sense and Sensibility Barton Cottage Quilt Kit

Hi everyone! Over a week ago, I published multiple posts about the Jane Austen at Home quilt kits I own. These kits are from Riley Blake Designs and are mostly inspired by fabric used in a coverlet Jane Austen and two of her family members created. Currently, I own all the kits except one, the Pride and Prejudice kit. Even though I mentioned this in previous posts, I have no current plans to make the kits. Despite this, I am very happy to own them and enjoy the place the hold in my fabric and sewing collection.

The kit I will talk about in this post is the Sense and Sensibility Barton Cottage quilt kit.

This is what the top of the box the kit comes in looks like…

And this is what the back of the box looks like…

On the back of the box, there is a picture of the quilt the kit makes. The kit creates a picture of Barton Cottage from the novel, Sense and Sensibility, with a border created with multiple block designs. The fabric designs in the kit are inspired of ones used by Jane Austen, her sister Cassandra, and their mother to create a coverlet quilt.

The kit includes the quilt instructions and fabric to make the quilt top and binding. The finished quilt will measure 65 inches by 65 inches.

Like the other quilt kits in this haul, the box the kit comes in has a flap opening and has a magnetic closure. When the lid is open, it looks like this…

Here is a more social media/photogenic photograph of the open box, the instructions, and some of the fabric…

And here is the list of all the fabric designs included in the kit…

When I saw this kit, I liked it, but I didn’t know if I wanted to own it. I like many of Jane Austen’s novels, but my favorite is Pride and Prejudice, bot Sense and Sensibility. Still, I really love the 1990’s movie of Sense and Sensibility a lot. I also really liked the quilt pattern design. Even though I originally didn’t want to purchase it, I finally decided it was a good idea to purchase it. I am very happy I did!

The quilt pattern looks more complicated than I previously thought it would. I am not surprised though. I was worried the pattern would be more complicated than I am used to working with. Still, I plan on making this quilt in the future. I just need more time to sit down, read the instructions carefully, and create practice blocks so I don’t mess up the kit fabric.

That’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
