The Navy and Yellow Scrap Quilt- The Full Sized Blocks

Hi everyone! It’s time for another post about the scrap quilt I made using the leftover fabric from the navy and yellow log cabin quilt I made last year. In my previous post, I talked about the base of the quilt blocks. In this post, I’m going to show what the full sized blocks look like.

Here are what some of the full sized blocks looked like…

I like how the blocks turned out. I like how the colors look together in general, but I really like how they look in the quilt blocks!

In my previous post, I mentioned how wide the fabrics were cut, (2 1/2 inches) yet I forgot to mention how long I cut them. I decided to use two lengths to cut the fabric: 5 inches and 2 1/2 inches. I decided on these two lengths because I wanted to fit the navy and white plaid fabric I didn’t use in my log cabin quilt in this quilt. Since I had already cut the plaid fabric to be 5 inches long (The length that was call for in the pattern I used) I didn’t want to waste any more fabric than I already did. So, I based everything off the 5 inch long measurement.

I decided to use a 2 1/2 inch length as well as the 5 inch because I had fabric that could be cut into 2 1/2 inch lengths, but not into 5 inches. Also, two 2 1/2 inch blocks will fit a 5 inch long piece of fabric with seam allowances.

Like I mentioned in my previous post, everything came together smoothly. Some of the seams didn’t line up exactly right, but that’s fine with me. In my next post, I will talk about the finished quilt top and add any other thoughts I have about this quilt.

That’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
