Simplicity’s USA 250 Sewing Patterns

Hi everyone! This year (2026) is the 250th anniversary of the United States of America. There are a lot of ways to celebrate the semiquincentennial, including making things. If you are interested in sewing something, you’re in luck because Simplicity has released three sewing patterns for the 250th anniversary!

The three sewing patterns include a pattern for flags and appliqués while the other two are rereleases of costume patterns from the bicentennial pattern collection in 1976.

The first sewing pattern in the collection is S3264, which creates commemorative flags and appliqués…

The description on the official listing for the pattern is…

Celebrate America’s 250th birthday with commemorative flags. Create stunning porch and lawn flags featuring pieced stripes, appliqued stars, and a contrast reverse side with special “USA 250” and leaf appliques for a unique tribute. Two sizes of appliques include ribbon stripes and shiny gemstone or sequin stars – perfect for adding patriotic flair to jackets, tops, hoodies, totes and more to show patriotic pride. See envelope for more information.

  • Fabric in Photo: Views A and B: Bridal satin. Views C and D: Satin ribbon for stripes. Bridal satin for union field. Flat back gemstone stars.
  • Fabric Suggestions: Flag A,B, Applique Base C,D and Star Base C,D in Broadcloth, Cotton Blends, Cottons, Duck, Poplin. Flag A,B and Star Base C,D also in Satin, Taffeta. Number, Leaf and Star Appliques A,B also in Lame, Metallic Fabrics.

The second pattern is S3226 and it creates women’s costumes…

Re-Release Commemorate America 250. The lined bodice Views 1, 2 and 3 with contrasting front section has low round neckline, elbow length set-in sleeves, back zipper and optional boning. Views 1 and 2 bodices with contrasting neck and sleeve ruffles may be trimmed with novelty tri or with ribbon and bows. View 3 bodice is trimmed with lace or eyelet edging and ribbon and bows. Views 1, 2 and 3 skirt gathered to waistband has back snap closing. Views 1 or 2 skirt features and overskirt off bodice fabric which can be tacked back revealing a contrasting facing. Shawl Views 1, 2 and 3 has self-fabric ruffle. Views 1, 2 and 3 cap with elastic casing forming self-ruffle has ribbon bow.

  • Fabric Suggestions: All except View 1 and 2 Bodice and Sleeve Ruffles in: Brocade, Challis, Cotton Broadcloth, Crepe, Crepe-back Satin, Lawn, Polished Cotton, Sateen, Shantung, Surah. View 1,2,3 Bodice Front also in: Cotton Lace, Eyelet. View 1 & 2 Bodice and Sleeve Ruffles in: Dotted Swiss, Organdy, Organza, Voile. Shawl also in: Voile. Cap also in: Cotton Lace, Eyelet, Voile. Extra fabric is needed to match plaids, stripes and one-way designs. Use nap yardage and nap layouts for one-way design fabrics. Not suitable for obvious diagonals.

The third and final pattern is S3227 and it creates men’s costumes…

Re-Release Commemorate America 250. The shirt with lace or embroidered eyelet edging ruffles has back slit opening, buttoned trimmed turn down stand-up collar, long sleeves gathered into elastic casings and optional ribbon trim. The top-stitched breeches with front bands have side button closings at waist and leg edges and leg bands fastened with buckles. The lined waistcoat has front button closing and self-fabric flaps. The button trimmed coat with ‘Napoleonic’ collar and collar band has contrasting collar, lapels, flaps, cuffs and coat facings and optional fringe trimmed shoulder tabs, braid loops and turned back button trimmed lower edge.

  • Fabric Suggestions: Shirt in Batiste, Chambray, Cotton Broadcloth, Lawn, Linen, Poplin. Breeches, Waistcoat and Coat in Canvas, Chino, Double Knit, Duck, Gabardine, Wool Flannel. Extra fabric is needed to match plaids, stripes or one-way design fabrics. Use nap yardage and nap layouts for one-way design fabrics. Not suitable for obvious diagonals. Lining: Lining Fabric. Interfacing: Lightweight Fusible or non-fusible.
