12 Days of Christmas Sewing Progress: Sew Simple Handmade Holiday Table Runner Kit Part 1

Hi everyone! It’s been a few weeks since I wrote about the 12 Days of Christmas Sewing. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you can read about my plans in my post here. One of the first sewing projects I wanted to make as part of the 12 Days of Christmas Sewing are table runner kits I purchased last year but never had the time or energy to work on.

While shopping for fabric in October 2019, I found holiday themed sewing kits. I purchased two sewing kits: A throw pillow sewing kit and a table runner sewing kit. Both kits are from Sew Simple’s Handmade Holiday line of sewing kits. I already made one of the kits, the throw pillow kit, last year. You can read and watch the YouTube video about it here.

Although I had plans to make the table runner kit, I decided to make a more complicated version of the kit by buying two kits and then combining the kits into two table runners.

The reason why I wanted to use two kits instead of one is because one kit was not long enough. Although I don’t have a table long enough to need a long table runner, I like to use long table runners on my fireplace mantel and on top of my piano for decoration. Even though the design for the table runners is very cute, I thought it would look better on my piano and fireplace mantel. So, I decided to combine both table runners into two long runners.

The plan is to make one table runner using the top fabric in the kits (It looks like the plaid Christmas tree with white background on the packaging) and another with the backing fabric, which is a black, white, and red plaid fabric included in the fabric. Since I’m using the backing fabric for the top of a table runner, I needed to buy more fabric for the backing. I decided to use black fabric I purchased from Walmart in a 3 yard pre-cut package. I’ll go more into making the table runner in a future post.

Well, that’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
