Wood DIY Countdown to Christmas- Strengthening the Sides of the Roof
Hi everyone! It’s time for another work in progress post about my wood diy countdown to Christmas! This time, I will be talking about something I worked on before I sanded the wood filler. That was strengthening the sides of the roof.
If you read my first post in this series, then you will know the roof of the gingerbread house was broken on one side. After studying the roof, I realized the reason why this happened: There wasn’t enough support for the sides of the roof.
This is what the area where the break happened looked like…

As you can see, there isn’t any wood between the two parts of the roof that were broken. If there was a piece of wood in the middle, it would have supported the sides more and made it sturdier. The same problem was on the other side of the house. Since another break could happen again, and nearly did while I was working on the house, I decided to add a piece of wood between the roof sides to strengthen them.
Here are the wood I decided to use…

They are both from Michael’s and are light weight, yet thick enough to sturdy the sides of the roof. (The wood on the house wasn’t very thick anyway, so I though this type of wood would work fine) As you can imagine, I didn’t need all the wood for this project, but I knew I would need it for future wood diy projects.
I cut small pieces of the wood to fit in the gap on the roof…

And then glued them in…

I used the same wood filler I used on the rest of the house to fill the gaps. It didn’t work out so well, but it’s fixed and I haven’t had any issues with it since.
That’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
