Wood DIY Countdown to Christmas- Sanding The Filled In Parts
Hi everyone! In my previous post about my wood diy countdown to Christmas, I mentioned that I decided to fill the areas where there are gaps and the parts of the roof that broke. After taking the photos used in the post, I sanded. And sanded. And sanded some more. That was when I decided to take photographs of what the house looked like before I moved onto working on other areas.
This is what the front of the house looked like after sanding…

Like I implied in my previous post, sanding was difficult. The wood filler I used was harder than the wood. This is normal, but wasn’t normal was how hard it was to sand the filler! I needed to use rougher sandpaper than I thought I would to take down the high points and to smooth everything out. I was really frustrated by it. I sanded wood filled wood before, but the filler was different than the kind I used on this house. This made it hard to make everything flush or smooth enough to not be noticeable.
For an example, here is a part of the roof I sanded down from the front of the house…

And here is the other side…

Both look smooth, but it took a long time to make it so!
Even though it looked flush, it wasn’t perfectly flush when looked from the top of the roof…

Basically, I was annoyed with how everything was working out. In hindsight, I wish I purchased a wood filler that I’m used to working with, used it on top of the original wood filler, and use the second wood filler as a way to smooth the lumps and bumps left by the first filler. At the time, I had enough and decided to stop sanding. I had other things I wanted to work on before I could paint it.
That’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
