How to Fix Loose Glitter on Christmas Decorations with With Nail Polish
Hi everyone! It’s the holiday season and you can see it everywhere, especially in decorations. If you are like me and love glitter on Christmas decorations, you probably know how hard it is to clean up loose glitter from those decorations.
For many years, I experimented with different ways of making glitter say on something. Although my attempts have kept the glitter on the object, they seemed to dull the shine of the glitter. Last year, I decided to try something new and, much to my surprise, it worked! Since I liked how it worked so much, I decided to share it this holiday season!
Here is what you need: Clear nail polish and the decoration you want to keep the glitter from falling off from.

For this post, I decided to use a mini tree topper I purchased last year…

As you can see, it has glitter on the front of the star…

The glitter began to shed in the store I purchased it from, but I decided it would be the best item to experiment my new idea for sealing the glitter. My idea was to use clear nail polish and paint it onto the areas with glitter.
The nail polish I chose to use on the tree topper was Salon Perfect’s Glitter Gloss…

I picked it because it is for glitter polish.
After painting multiple coats on the glitter of the tree topper, it looked like this…

And here is a close up…

I really like how it turned out!
If you want to try this yourself, I highly recommend using a nail polish for glitter. It will help smooth out the bumps created by the glitter as well as keeps the shine from the glitter without dulling it. If you don’t care about the bumps, then use normal clear polish. If you want to keep the shine of the glitter, please make sure you don’t use a matte top coat polish. Also, the cost of the polish doesn’t matter. The top coat polishes I used didn’t cost a lot, so you don’t need to worry about it. And finally, try to keep the nail polish off areas where there isn’t any glitter. Depending on the item and what it is made out of, there might be a reaction to the polish on those areas. I experienced this while working on a different decoration. I was able to stop the reaction and fix the problem, but it did make me realize I need to be careful when painting the polish onto the item.
That’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
