Wood DIY Countdown to Christmas Decor- The Broken Roof & Future Plans

Hi everyone! Three years ago, I decided to purchase DIY wood Christmas decor and paint it with the colors I want them to have. At that point in time I wanted certain holiday decorations that were available as DIY wood decor, but not in a pre-painted version.

One of the DIY decor I purchased was a wood Christmas countdown decoration. Over the years I worked on it and, as of the writing of this post, it is still not finished. Still, I enjoy thinking about it and working on it every now and then.

Since I enjoy working on it, I wanted to write posts about how I turned it into the decoration I am happy to own. Unlike what I originally planed, it was not an easy paint and enjoy type of DIY project. Instead, it required work. Lots of work.

This is what the decoration looked like after I purchased it and unwrapped it from it’s plastic wrapping…

I purchased this at Michael’s. It looks like a gingerbread house, which I love! I considered the different types of paint schemes I could paint it, including a feminine pink and white scheme, but I eventually settled on a traditional gingerbread house style paint scheme.

Although I had big ideas on what to paint it, there were some major problems with it before I could paint it. The biggest problem was the roof.

I didn’t notice this until I got the house home, but the right side of the roof had broken. Both the front and back of the roof had broke. I didn’t know the full extent of the damage until I unwrapped it from the plastic it came in.

This is a close up of the front right side of the roof…

You can see where it broke.

This is what the back of the house…

And a close up of the broken side of the roof (This time, it’s on the left side of the roof. It’s opposite to the broken part on the front of the house)…

I ended up using wood glue to fix them, but there were other problems I saw with the roof that bothered me. I ended up taking my time figuring out how to fix them and actually making the fix. I will be talking about them in future posts.

That’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
