Addressing My Sketch and Drawing Slump

Hi everyone! It has been quite a while since I posted sketches and drawings on here. Since it’s been a while since I posted, I wanted to talk about why I haven’t been posting about sketching or drawings.

What has been going on is that I didn’t feel like creating new sketches and drawings. I have been doing a lot of work recently and most of my spare time has been spent cleaning out my things and things I inherited from a relative after they passed away. Doing both has been physically, mentally, and emotionally draining. When I do sit down, I feel exhausted and would rather sleep or watch TV than actually draw and sketch.

I don’t know if this has caused me to feel uninspired, but I have been feeling pretty uninspired too. I try to think of subjects to draw and sketch, but I can’t think of anything. I feel like everything I want to sketch are overdone by me or are so common online. For an example, I decided to sketch a picture of Sailor Moon. Sailor Moon is so common that I feel like I don’t know what direction I want my drawing to go. Do I make a picture inspired by the Naoko Takeuchi’s original art or in my own style? Do I need to gather reference pictures for a picture in my art style?

As you can probably tell, I’m really overthinking things. When I realized I was overthinking what images to sketch and draw, I finally just sat down and began to sketch on my iPad. I am happy to say that, even though none of my art is Sailor Moon inspired, I have many new sketches that I’m happy about. The thing is I don’t feel ready to post the online.

Still, I’m working my way out of my art slump. I decided to try to focus on sketching without the pressure of drawing something to post online. I used to feel the need to create new art to post online, but I felt really burned out from it. This time, I’m trying to build my confidence in my skills by creating art without the added stress from creating something to post as quickly as possible.

I don’t know when I will be posting my art again, but I will say that I’m working on new pieces. I just don’t feel ready to post them online.

That’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
