Wood Star DIY Sign- Plans, Materials, and Progress
Hi everyone! Last year, I got really into painting DIY wood decor. I really like the ability to customize decor to my colors and whatever style I think of. Last year, I found a star wall art at Dollar Tree. It was very pretty, but it gave me the idea to make a wall art inspired by something I used to decorate my room as a teenager. Back then, I had a star from my eighth grade promotion dance. It was simple, not super special, and was not made to last, yet I loved it a lot. The fact the dance was star inspired was also ironic. I liked looking at stars and star shapes in general since I was young, yet the theme and decor of the dance was not influenced by my tastes! So, after feeling inspired by the dance decor and the fact there were stars there, I hung it up on my bedroom wall. It lived there until it started to deteriorate too much. Then I threw it away.
Still, I miss it. So, I decided to buy the wood star and turn it into a new wall art! I considered decorating it the way the original star looked like, but I ended up deciding decorating the star to be a different color. Also, I decided to add a backing to the star so it will look even prettier! (And sturdier than the star would be like!)
I didn’t take photographs of the star before I began to paint the star, but it had a twine tied to the star to hang it. I didn’t need the twine, so I cut it off. Then, I painted the star gold. It looked like this once I was done painting it…

I wanted the star to have a circular background. The idea is to glue the star onto the round background and hang both together once I finish both. Since the star is gold, I wanted something to set the gold off. I finally decided to paint a wood round disk I found on Amazon white and cover it with white color shifting/holographic glitter. Once I finished the disk, it looked like this…

And this is what the star and the disk look like side by side…

I still need to glue the star to the disk, but I’ve been putting that off. I want to add another layer of glitter onto the disk, but I keep second guessing the kind of glue I want to use for the disk. The disk has two different glues on it and caused the glitter to shine differently. Since the difference between the two different glues and the way the glitter reflects off it is obvious, I think another layer of glitter will fix the issue. This difference isn’t obvious in the pictures, but it is in person. If this doesn’t fix it, then I’ll get another disk (I have more than one ready to be painted and used) and paint it like the other disk. The difference will be I will use the same glue all over the disk. That way it won’t shine weird!
That’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
