Red, White, and Blue Quilt Pillow Case- Quilt Pattern Options

Hi everyone! As I write this post, it looks like I won’t be able to finish making the pillow before the end of Memorial Day weekend. That’s ok though. There have been too many things distracting me from sewing lately! Sadly, after working on everything, I usually become so tired I don’t have the energy to sit down and sew. I hope to start making the pillow case in June.

In the mean time, I want to talk about the quilt patterns I am thinking about using to make the pillow case out of. I found a quilt book called Quick-Method Liberty Quilt at Goodwill that gave me inspiration (and patterns) for the quilt design. Even though I already know what design I want to use, I still wanted to go through the book and talk about all my favorite quilt ideas for my throw pillow.

This is what the book looks like…

The blue paper sticking out of the top of the book are Post It Notes. They mark the pages where patterns I like are located on.

The first pattern I liked is the Starry Log Cabin…

I am familiar with log cabin quilt patterns, but this pattern is more advanced than what I am familiar with. Despite this, I know I could make it. My first attempt will probably be wonky, but I am determined to use the pattern one day.

Here is a close up of what the quilt block looks like…

Even though this book is about quilts, the book includes instructions on how to make throw pillows using the block…

I love so many things about this quilt block, including the fact it has a star included in it. (I love star designs!) Yet, there is something wrong with it. The quilt block required various fabric designs to make the log cabin part of the quilt. I wanted to make my quilt blocks out of three fabrics only. So, even though I really like the pattern, I decided to pass on it for now.

The second quilt block design I liked is Prairie Stars…

Again, this block has a star, which I love. Sadly, this pattern does not have a throw pillow pattern. That wouldn’t be too much of an obstacle if the pattern used three colors only. The pattern could be easily modified to use three colors, but I feel like I would like the pattern more if it has as many color variants as the pattern says to use.

The final quilt block I likes is Colonial Strippy Collection…

At first, I like the quilt pattern, but wanted to pass on it. Even though it uses three colors, I didn’t like the quilt’s pattern for a throw pillow.

As a reference, this is what the quilt looks like…

So, it’s not what I was looking for my project. One day I may make it, but definitely not now or for this throw pillow project.

I almost gave up on the design still I turned the page and saw the coordinating throw pillow patterns…

That’s when I decided to make this pattern with my fabric.

There are four throw pillow quilt variations, all of them use three colors only. Also, there are plenty of stars in the quilts to make myself happy!

As of the writing of this post, I have not decided on the pattern I want to use. I know one pattern is not the one I want to make and another is my favorite, but I need to think about it some more. Once I decide on the pattern, I will start to make the throw pillow quilt.

Well, that’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
