Valentine’s Day Spoonflower Fabric Design Pencil Sketches- January 2021

I know it’s been quite a while since I posted a drawing or sketch I did. Even though I drew and sketched since my last art post, I didn’t feel like posting them. I recently decided to start posting more art on this blog, so I looked through my sketch book and found some Spoonflower fabric design sketches I did in January.

The theme of the sketches is Valentine’s Day. I wanted to design a few holiday themed designs for my Spoonflower shop as well as for my Society 6 shop. Although it took me a while to think of a design, I decided to try to make a design inspired by brass metal stamping in filigree designs.

I started by drawing half of this heart…

After finishing this heart design, I realized I accidentally drew a figure in the middle of it. Sometime, I draw designs I love or is highly appropriate for the theme of the drawing by accident while other times I realize I could add it while I’m drawing or after I finished. Since the design is for Valentine’s Day, I decided to make another heart with a figure in it with a different design…

 

After drawing both hearts, I tried to imagine how the design should look. I thought it would look really nice if there was another design between the two hearts, specifically one circular shaped. I wanted the design to have a similar style of the hearts so everything will look harmonious.

Drawing a circle like this wasn’t easy because I didn’t like each circle I drew. I thought they didn’t look right, so I drew several of them… as well as some other designs I thought would be fun to make as a design as well.

The reason why I drew only half of the design is because I use half of the design and reverse it in Photoshop Elements to make the whole design. You can read more about how I make my Spoonflower fabric designs in a post I made here, here, and here.

I’m very happy with the way the design turned out. I’m sad it won’t be ready or available for sale on Valentine’s Day, but I hope I can have it ready for 2022.
