Sewing Vogue Pattern V2004: Playing With Trim Variations and My Final Decision
Hi everyone! It’s been a while since I wrote a post about sewing my Vogue V2004 dress. Sadly, the final dress I made didn’t fit me right, so I decided to make another one. Even though I had a fitting setback with my first dress, I still have some posts to publish about making it. When I decided to make a new dress, I decided to make it using the same fabric and trim, but I enlarged the bust to make it fit me better.
In this post, I want to talk about the trim options I had and what I ultimately picked for the first dress. Since the second dress is a copy of the first one, just in a larger size, everything I talk about in this post will be copied for the second dress.
The pattern calls for lace trim in a certain width (2 inches wide if I remember correctly). I searched for trim at all the normal stores I buy trim from without success. Instead, I ordered trim from Amazon. It looked like this…

It was too small to be wide enough for what the pattern called for, so I decided to double them together. The trim is a beige color, which looked really nice agains t the floral print and white background of the fabric.
In this photograph, I decided to audition the trim with other trim options I purchased as a backup. The first was a 2 inch wide baby pink ribbon with the lace trim on top of it. It looked nice in person, but as you can probably tell by looking at the photograph, the ribbon cannot be seen behind the trim. So, I scrapped that idea and decided to try another ribbon trim I purchased.

The beige ribbon was from Joanns and cost less than a dollar per spool. It also matched the lace trim’s shade of beige. I really liked the way the trim looked on top of the two pieces of lace trim. To me, it makes it look like it is one piece of trim instead of two pieces of the same trim double together with a ribbon laid on top of them!
I knew that the two pieces of trim with the ribbon on top them would be the trim I would use, but I wanted to see if there were any other variations I may want to use instead.
Here is one piece of lace trim on top the pink ribbon…

I love the way they look, but I didn’t think it would look good with what I’m looking for.
Here is the previous trim combination with the beige ribbon on top the lace…

Again, really liked it, but it wasn’t something I was looking for.
And finally, just to check to see if I would really like the trim, I laid the last trim combination on top the fabric…

At this point I seriously considered using it, but I realized I didn’t have enough pink ribbon. So, I went back to my favorite trim combination and laid it on top the fabric…

And that’s the trim combination I finally decided on!
That’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
