Discovering One of My Favorite Photogenic Cacti Has Died- Cactus 1
Hi everyone! Well, this post isn’t a very happy one. I discovered earlier this year one of my favorite cacti I would take photographs of has died. This isn’t the only cactus I loved to take photographs of that has died, but it is the first I want to talk about.
This cactus used to have really pretty purple flowers. I posted about it several times over the years and I really enjoyed how it would photograph. It was near my relative’s house and it was an easy hike from the house. It was also pretty easy to photograph as well.
Earlier this year, I hiked to it to see if there are flower buds on it. That was when I was shocked to see it was torn apart…

Here are some of the pieces of it…

And here is a photograph of the last pieces of the cactus still in the place where it used to grow…

You can also see a hole where the cactus used to be. I think an animal may have torn the cactus apart to make a hole. I’m not sure why it would pick this post, but it could be because there are badgers in the area. They moved in a few years ago and made themselves at home. There are many spots on my relative’s property that have badger holes, but one area where there are at least five in close proximity to each other. My friends and I call the area “Badger Land” as a joke.
Still, the cactus was not near the badger’s holes. This is why we wonder if the cactus was destroyed by a badger trying to get to an animal that lived in a hole on the other side of the cactus. (There were holes near the cactus. I was able to angle the camera so it wouldn’t show the holes.)
If you want to see the cactus and what it used to look like with flowers on it, you can read on of the posts I made about it here.
That’s all for now. Thank you for reading.
