The Turquoise and Grey Log Cabin Quilt: The Finished Quilt Top and Fabric and Batting Choices

Hi everyone! I’m still taking a break from quilt this log cabin quilt, but I also have work in progress posts I still need to publish. For this post, I want to talk about what the finished quilt looks like (Before quilting) and my choice for batting.

Here’s what the finished quilt looked like before I began to quilt it…

After I finished sewing the blocks together, I realized two things: First, the blocks are not completely straight. This caused me major problems when I began to quilt it. So, it’s not perfect nor does it look as nice as a second log cabin quilt I made around the same time I made this one. Second: I have left over blocks from the quilt. I think I got to carried away cutting the fabric and didn’t pay attention to the amount of pieces I cut. I didn’t bother counting because I wanted to use all the fabric I purchased for the quilt up. If the piece was useable I would be using it to make a block.

I’ll talk more about what my plans are for the left over blocks in my next quilt post.

After finishing the top of the quilt, I decided to search for backing. I wasn’t able to go to JoAnn before it closed, so I ended up searching the internet for fabric to use as the backing. This is how I found this fabric…

It is a 108 inches by 108 inches piece of 100% cotton fabric. It wasn’t cheep, but after price comparing other fabrics, I decided to buy it.

This is what the fabric looks like without the paper with all the important information on it…

I really like how it looks. It’s not turquoise, but it still is pretty. After quilting it, I can honestly say I like it as a backing as well. It may be higher priced than other options, but, in my eyes, it is a quality piece of fabric perfect for backing quilts with.

That’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
