Hi everyone! It’s already July! I don’t know where the year has gone, but I am glad fall is coming soon. Although I enjoy fall, I love the temperatures most of all. As someone who lives in Arizona, I dread the hot summers. This is why the cooler temperatures of fall are a welcome relief to the heat.
Since the year is halfway done, I decided to talk about some of my sewing plans for the rest of the year. I also wanted to talk about why I decided to add so many quilts to my to-sew list for 2025.
First, I want to talk about the quilts I’m planning on making. Last year, I decided to focus more on sewing quilts this year. I have a lot of clothing I want to make, but I realized my body needed more time to heal from health problems I’ve been suffering from for many years. These health problems caused my body to swell a lot. For the past year and a half I’ve been slowly recovering from them. Late last year, I decided to focus on trying to find ways to reduce the swelling in my body. The swelling causes me to suffer from a lot of pain as well as fluctuate between clothing sizes. I decided until I get my swelling under control, I won’t be making any clothing for myself unless it is a free size.
As of this post, I’m doing much better. My swelling still purists, but it’s getting much better. (My new diet, understanding of my food allergies, and other lifestyle changes are what I credit for this) I am cautiously optimistic that I may have my swelling completely under control by the end of this year or very early next year. I’m starting to make tentative plans for making clothes very last this year, but right now I’m just going to focus on making things I can enjoy but not wear.
One of the major sewing projects I plan on working on are quilts. I have a lot of fabric I want to make quilts out of, but I never had the chance to. Since I’m not sewing clothes for myself, I have more time to sew quilts. So I do. I don’t know what I’ll be able to finish by the end of the year, but quilts made out of the fabric I already own is my top priority.
The other sewing projects I need to work on are throw pillows (I can’t find any in the right size, so I decided to make some myself), throw pillow covers, Christmas tree skirts (I have enough fabric to make multiple skirts) and Christmas stockings. I am also browsing my new-to-me sewing books for handbag, tote bag, and clutch ideas. I don’t have any plans (Or the materials) to make them, but I wanted to mention I’m starting to consider making myself new accessories.
Finally, I am planning on making muslin versions of clothing I want to make. I have a long list of clothes (Mostly dresses and office type attire) I want/need to make, so I plan on making muslin/prototype versions of them. I want to know how they fit right now so when my swelling completely goes down, I’ll know what the clothes will fit like on me. I plan on using old bed sheets I need to get rid of for this. I’m also browsing bolts of muslin on Amazon to get an idea for how much they cost just in case I don’t have enough bed sheets (Or usable parts of them) to make the muslin versions of my clothes.
Well, that’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
P.S. Before anyone wonders or asks, yes I still plan on working on Vogue V2004 and the McCall’s 8029 patterns.
