Hi everyone! After the problems with my turquoise and grey log cabin quilt, I decided to take a break from sewing for a while.
Even though I’m on a break from sewing, I decided to clean out parts of my house. This is when I found more fabric. Some of the fabric was not longer good fabric (It was faux leather and was deteriorating) there were many pieces that were good. I decided to sort through them and see which ones I wanted to make or give away.
This is when I found quilt panels I purchased a few years ago to hang on my walls. The panels are of beach scenes I really liked. I still like them and decided to keep them in order to use them.
This is what the first panel looks like…
It’s a long piece (44 inches by 36 inches) so I couldn’t take a picture of the whole panel without getting the mess I made while cleaning. (I’m not kidding. I’m really embarrassed by it.)
I saw this panel online and fell in love with it. It is by Timeless Treasures and is called Ocean Breeze. After searching for other beach and summer themed quilt panels, I found this wave panel…
It is also by Timeless Treasures and is called Beach Day. When I saw the panels, I imagined the Ocean Breeze panel hanging on the wall with two Beach Day panels on either side of it. I went back and forth about purchasing the panels, but I finally purchased them. I purchased one Ocean Breeze panel and two Beach Day panels.
My original idea was to create a single wall hanging out of the three panels. To combine them, I decided to use cotton with a wood grain design. The idea is to sew the panels together with a wood grain frame around them. In my head, it will look like a window looking at the beach scene. I also considered making them separate from one another so they could be hung side by side.
I found two wood grain fabric options off Spoonflower and purchased them…
The one on the right is by Willowlanetextiles. The one on the right is by Kadenza.
I purchased them not only for this project but for at least two other sewing projects that I needed wood grain fabric for.
And this is where the project stands today. I decided to use the one by Willow Lane. I thought it would fit with the wood depicted in the panels the best.
