Creating a Throw Pillow Case Out of Extra Turquoise and Grey Scrap Quilt Blocks

Hi everyone! In last week’s post about the turquoise and grey scrap quilt I was making, I mentioned I had one block left over from sewing the quilt top. Prior to working on the quilt, I decided that if I had any extra quilt blocks, I would turn them into throw pillow covers. Since I had one extra block for this quilt, I decided it would be be perfect to incorporate into a throw pillow cover!

After searching my scrap piles and new fabric from abandoned projects, I was able to make this…

I’m really proud of how it turned out! I had some extra strips of a turquoise and white design and grey and turquoise plaid designs, so I decided to incorporate them into the quilt. I also had some new, white cotton fabric from an abandoned project that I decided to use as well.

This is what the front of the throw pillow looks like next to the scrap quilt…

I really like how they compliment each other!

As of the writing of this post, the throw pillow is still unfinished. I had to stop to think about what I wanted to do with it next. Even though I love the white fabric in this pillow design, I don’t like how thin and sheer the fabric is. When I made it, I was considering sewing another layer of white fabric on the back of it and then quilting it. Even though it solved my sheer white fabric problem, I wondered if it would be harder to quilt with batting and/or if the design wouldn’t look the way I want it to if I did quilt it. I was also considering quilting the top to the white back fabric and not include batting.

I kept going back and forth, so I decided to take some time to think about it. Now that it’s been many months later, I feel frustrated that I can’t make up my mind.

Whatever I decide to do, I will update everyone in a future post.

That’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
